Well, it's Aug 3 on my side of the globe, and must be there or getting there where most of you are, so here's a nice TDIH ...

I can’t do a blow-by-blow like so many folks here, who are way more tuned in to what’s going on musically than I am, but 8/3/82 is a shining night at the Starlight in Kansas City – a lovely show that begins in fine form with a Half-Step that flows into a sparkling Franklin’s Tower. That’s a promising start, and the boys deliver: There’s a sweet Peggy O, a soulful To Lay Me Down, a cooking Let it Grow, a crisp Althea, a hopping Cumberland. There are some TOO teases in space, but Jerry stays meditative, and goes into an extended He’s Gone that becomes a captivating blend of pumping energy and sweet reflectiveness (before they do go, after all, into a hot but too-brief TOO). The encore is a funky, jumping Casey Jones.

The band is tight, and the energy is high but not hyped up. The summer of ’82 had a lot of great shows, and while I’d hesitate to rank – not having heard everything, and not being knowledgeable enough anyway! -- this really must be one of the best.

Here’s a good AUD:

A real fine evening, glad you were there RBNW. Starlight is a great venue.
If my memory is still functional, it seems like this was a long way from a sellout, maybe (big maybe) half full. Also seems like the gates were thrown open for the last hour. Maybe you remember ?

This looks nice. Really interested in the To Lay me down>Let It Grow> Jam in the second set. Also with Women are smarter in the first set could that be a first time played?

I have this Shakedown highly rated in my notes... thanks for the reminder to check out the whole show tonight!

Seems like the band hit a nice hot streak here in summer '82. That 7-31 show is fiery!

Hi AR . On Kathmandu time . Near the rooftop of the world . You are far away , girl . Are those roosters waking you up at a proper time , yet ? Remember we are counting on you to keep the Indians , Chinese , Nepalese , Tibetans ,and the Bhutanese in line . No pressure , of course . But we expect results .

I never remember this one , but I ought to . AR hit the highlights above . I like this source better .

I had this tape a long, long time ago and would play it again and again. Then the cat peed on it and I couldn't bring myself to put it back in the player. I have the Miller but apparently have never put it on my iPod because I only have it in FLAC. I am converting now and will listen today. The second set list is fantastic.

Thanks for the heads up.

One of my first tapes that was "current" at the time I got it, and it was the tape that really got me into Althea. Haven't listened to same in years (although still have and free of cat pee). Will give a spin thanks to the rec.

Outstanding show with a myriad of fine sources from which to chose: crispy AUD, precised SBD and a fine Matrix. Can't lose with any of 'em. Thanks for reminding me about this one. One of those shows I love dusting off from time to time and turning loose on my Lazy-Boy.

Oh, don't worry about the whole "blow by blow" thing. That can only breed false expectations in those less reputable among us.
